"CHILDREN are our valuable assets."

Three children shared this message while submitting their views to the Constitution Commission at the parliamentary complex in Suva yesterday.

Fane Qarase, Mercedes Semaan and Ozayr Akbar impressed upon the commission what they proposed to be included in the new constitution.

Miss Qarase said every child had the right to be free from violence.

"We have the right to live in a world that is safe and nurturing. Violent discipline, whether physical or psychological should be removed all together. If you want to remove the coup culture, then make violent discipline illegal," she said.

Miss Semaan said children of iTaukei origin should be registered in the Vola ni Kawa Bula.

She said national pride should be instilled in every child.

Miss Akbar said every child had the right to express an opinion and to basic necessities.

She also proposed that the legal age of consuming alcohol be 21.
