The president of the Chinese Association of Fiji, Jenny Seeto, has confirmed that they have not discussed anything on being part of the Constituent Assembly.

She said the Chinese people are quite obedient; they believe in unity and so they take that to a broader level as far as the country is concerned and they take the teachings of Chinese culture as it will help them on the road to the future.

Mrs Seeto said they had not done a lot yet in preparation for the 2014 General Elections.

“I suppose the first thing that has to happen is the registration of the political parties, so when the parties are registered, only then can the Chinese community look to see who it is they will support,” Mrs Seeto said.

She said there was no member of the association was going to form any political party but individuals could decide whether to belong to a certain party.

“No one has brought up the subject of a party being registered and we are just letting the pre- preparation process take its cause at the moment with the registration of the political parties.”

Meanwhile the Chinese community in Fiji welcomed the New Year with excitement and look forward to entertaining guests at their homes, visiting relatives and friends and mingling with families.

Mrs Seeto, on behalf of the Chinese community and as president of the Chinese Association of Fiji, is wishing everyone in Fiji a happy New Year of the Snake and good luck and peace and prosperity and well being for the whole country and its people.
